A Case of Que Sera

Spicy Shrimp with Rice Noodles 1 - The Duo Dishes

“What do you do when you don’t know what to do?” That was the question I tossed out into the world via Twitter last week. As I walked through the grocery store aisles, my stride was lazy and slow. My eyes scanned the bright, round produce, sterile metal cans and study cardboard boxed meals as I retraced my steps through the store, hoping something, anything, would literally hit me upside the head with inspiration. Instead, I just looked like that girl who was mumbling to herself as she retraced her steps through the store. Over and over again. Amir and I have both been running around with our respective day jobs lately, as well as planning a beer-paired menu for an upcoming birthday and a group trip to Portland. Some of the meals in our kitchens have been the kind of dishes you make for yourself when you don’t want to make anything at all. Others have been takeout. The Duo’s Ethnic Exploration: Filipino

Lauriat Soy Sauce & Paufina Pastis-The Duo Dishes

With the holidays in full swing, this month’s Ethnic Exploration was hard to squeeze in. We have to stay true to schedule though, so here is the 2010 finale. Food can take you places, and this time, we’ve gone to the Philippines. We have made a couple of very traditional Filipino dishes before (adobo and lumpia), so maybe we are not brand new to the cuisine, but there is a lot of good Filipino food out there. We just barely skimmed the surface. A trip to a local market, and we were armed with a few must-haves to create another meal. It was easy, and it was good. And we can’t wait to share it with you.
